The North East at Haridwar

There is hardly any need to explain about Haridwar to any Indian, particularly followers of Hinduism. Hairdwar, the doorway to Hari, the almighty is an important place of pilgrimage in India. But Haridwar has in recent times has been news maker for another reason. It is another location about 10 kilometers from Haridwar that makes sense. It is Patanjali Yogpeeth the unique creation of Baba Ramdevji. Besides being pilgrim site this Patanjali Yogpeeth is the one cause that has inspired me to write this story. Baba Ramdevji very often organizes Yog Shibir (Yoga Camp) for people of different states and places and following this tradition a mega camp was organized at Patanjali Yogpeeth for people of entire North East Region for four days with effect from 14^th November 2009. I with my wife and many friends attended the camp as Primary Yoga Teacher and as member of Bharat Swabhiman movement. It was indeed captivating scene to see the members from seven states of North East assembling together for a noble cause that is HEALTHY INDIA-CORRUPTION FREE INDIA. Though the whole session was so interesting two things left an imprint in my mind that can not be obliterated and they were-

1)      Baba Ramdev’s comment on SriManta Sankardev

2)      The cultural programme depicting North East India

Regarding point one I had to be, surprised about, at first, is the picture of Mahapurush Srimatna Sankardeva. He was placed with due honor in along other “ADHYATMIK GURUS” of India that one can see to the right of main hall and secondly his showering of thousand word in praise of Srimanta Sankardev. It was an exception to the attitude of other part of India having lackadaisical attitude towards North East. But Baba Ramdevji honoured him as Mahayogi and great reformer. Spontaneously my eyes became moist out of joy. We still hesitate to give this great saint his due honor still today. How ungrateful we are!

And regarding point two I must say that it was a fantastic programme that can hardly be expressed in words. Satriya Dances (Mati Akhora etc) and the great performance of BHORTAAL NRITYA by the team enthralled the audience. Baba Ramdevji himself was mesmerized, he expressed in his speech. Let’s keep it up.
